The RIGHT TAG is simply a tag that is active on your E-ZPass account.
Not necessarily. As part of a periodic tag replacement, New Jersey E-ZPass sends out new tags to customers and asks them to send the old tags back to the Customer Service Center. We’ve noticed that a lot of customers hold on to these old tags.
No. The old tags are eventually deactivated after the new ones arrive in the mail. Your old tag will no longer work.
Actually, it is. If your tag is not working, you could lose out on your E-ZPass discounts or be charged a higher cash or toll-by-plate rate. On some roads, without a tag in your vehicle, you could be charged the “maximum toll” – that is the rate for entering at the interchange farthest from your exit.
Log in to your account at www.ezpassnj.com
. On the purple bar at the top of the page, click “Tags/Vehicles” and choose “Tag List” from the drop-down menu. You will see a list of tags assigned to your account. The list will indicate the status of each of those tags. Make sure the status of the tag you use in your vehicle is “ACTIVE”.
You can call the New Jersey E-ZPass Customer Service Center at 888-AUTO-TOLL (888-288-6865).
It does not. You need to have the RIGHT TAG mounted in the RIGHT SPOT no matter where you opened your E-ZPass account. If you have doubts about your tag, log into your account or call the Customer Service Center in the state where you maintain your E-ZPass account.
As part of our tag replacement program, you should have received a replacement tag kit. If you have this kit handy, please follow the instructions on how to replace and return your old tag. If you cannot locate this kit, please call the E-ZPass Customer Service Center for assistance at 888-AUTO-TOLL (888-288-6865).
The RIGHT SPOT is the optimal location for mounting your E-ZPass tag.
No, it's not OK. You have no way to know as you travel through a toll lane exactly when the antenna on the E-ZPass equipment is searching for the E-ZPass tag in your car. There is a high likelihood that you will wave or hold the tag near your windshield too early or too late for it to be read by the equipment in the lane.
Yes, it could. If your tag isn’t mounted in the RIGHT SPOT, you could be losing out on the money-saving benefits of E-ZPass.
In most vehicles, the RIGHT SPOT is on the windshield near the rearview mirror attached to the mounting strips supplied with your tag by the New Jersey E-ZPass Customer Service Center.
Start by cleaning and drying the inside of your windshield around the rearview mirror. Then remove the tape backing from the mounting strips on the back of the E-ZPass tag. Make sure the label on the tag is right-side up and facing you. Press the tag to your windshield about one inch to the right of the center support of the rearview mirror and one inch below the top edge of the windshield.
No need to buy them. You can request new mounting strips online. Just log into your account at ezpassnj.com, select “Tags/Vehicles” from the menu in the purple strip at the top of the page, and click on the “Request Tag Supplies” button. The mounting strips will be sent to you at no charge. You can also request mounting strips by calling the New Jersey E-ZPass Customer Service Center at 888-AUTO-TOLL (888-288-6865).
It is not. While having your license plate number listed on your New Jersey E-ZPass account can help you avoid violations, the only way to be sure you’re paying the RIGHT TOLL is to keep an active transponder properly mounted in your vehicle.
If you have followed all the above directions and continue to notice transactions posting to your account via your license plate number instead of your E-ZPass tag number, please contact the E-ZPass Customer Service at 888-AUTO-TOLL (888-288-6865).
