One northbound lane of the Route 18 bridge over the New Jersey Turnpike will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, July 19th, until 5 a.m. Monday, July 22nd, as a contractor will continue work on the rehabilitation of the structure. Two northbound lanes and all three southbound lanes will remain open during the weekend high-intensity construction cycle.
The Route 18 bridge is one of 16 New Jersey Turnpike Authority structures being rehabilitated this year under an $8.5 million contract with the Ferreia Construction Co. of Branchburg. The work includes deck and joint repairs, replacement of existing asphalt wearing surface, bearing replacement, and miscellaneous substructure repairs.
In order to minimize traffic impacts, the work on the Route 18 structure is being performed overnight and during a series of weekend high-intensity construction cycles. Construction started last weekend and is expected to be completed this fall.
