TRAFFIC ALERT: Northbound Parkway traffic will be detoured overnights in February at Passaic River

Feb 07 2025

All northbound traffic on the Garden State Parkway will be detoured off the roadway at Exit 156 in Clifton overnight for 15 nights in February to accommodate the demolition of a portion of the Passaic River Bridge.

The first overnight closure is scheduled from 11 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10, to 5 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Through traffic will be detoured off the northbound Parkway at Exit 156 and will travel about 1 ½ miles eastbound on U.S. Route 46 before returning to the northbound Parkway at Interchange 157. An hour before the full detour goes into effect, only one northbound lane in the vicinity of Exit 156 will be open to traffic. Northbound drivers should allow additional time to travel through this section of the Parkway on nights when the detour is in effect.

Southbound Parkway traffic will not be affected by the detour.

To check traffic conditions in real time during the closure, drivers are encouraged to call 511, visit 511nj.org, or download the SafeTripNJ app. Travel alerts and live camera views of the roadway are available at the Turnpike Authority website, www.NJTA.com (select “Alerts” or “Cameras” from the icons at the top of the home page).

The demolition work on the Passaic River Bridge is weather-dependent. Follow @GSParkway on X for information on what nights the detour will be in effect.

The Turnpike Authority is replacing the superstructure and widening the lanes and shoulders of the 70-year-old bridge over the Passaic River and U.S. Route 46. Construction started in 2021 and is scheduled to continue until late 2026.
