Only one eastbound lane of the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension of the New Jersey Turnpike will be open to traffic this weekend between Interchange 14C and Jersey Avenue as construction crews make repairs to bridge decks.
Only the right lane will be open from milepost 6.0 to the end of the Extension from 9 p.m. Friday, September 23rd, to 5 a.m., Monday, September 26th.
Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and to check traffic conditions by calling 511 from a hands-free device or downloading the SafeTripNJ app.
The work is being done under a $15.2 million contract awarded in December 2021 to Joseph M. Sanzari Inc. for repairs to 22 bridge structures on the northern section of the Turnpike. The work under the contract generally includes deck repairs, joint repairs, replacement of asphalt wearing surface, bearing replacement, and miscellaneous substructure repairs.
