NJTA Will Hold a Virtual Public Forum on the Reforestation Plan for a Proposed Drainage Rehabilitation Project

Feb 09 2021

The New Jersey Turnpike Authority will hold a virtual public hearing on the No Net Loss Compensatory Reforestation Plan for proposed drainage improvements on the Garden State Parkway between mileposts 110.6 and 116.4 in the townships of Holmdel and Middletown.  The hearing will be held virtually at 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2021. Members of the public are invited to participate by video or audio.

The Turnpike Authority plans to replace or repair drainage pipes less than 5 feet in diameter to minimize the occurrence of sinkholes, flooding, slope failure, and other events.  Tree removal will be necessary to gain access to this infrastructure. When state entities remove trees during development projects involving a half-acre or more, the New Jersey No Net Loss Reforestation Act requires them to replant the trees when construction is complete.

During the virtual public forum, the Turnpike Authority will present details about the proposed improvements and the No Net Loss Compensatory Reforestation Plan.  The public will be invited to make comments.

To participate in the meeting by video, use a web-connected device to visit the Authority’s website, www.njta.com, and click on the link for the Contract No. P200.568 No Net Loss Public Forum. (The link will be live on the website on the day of the hearing.) When prompted, enter your first and last name and your email address. The event passcode will be filled in automatically. Press “Join Now” to join the meeting.

To participate by telephone (audio only), call 1-202-860-2110 and, when prompted, enter the following meeting number: 179 582 8837.

The forum will be recorded and posted on the NJTA website after its conclusion.

Written comments may be submitted to the Authority until April 19, 2021. They should be sent by mail to Sean Butler, Maintenance Engineer, New Jersey Turnpike Authority, P.O. Box 5042, Woodbridge, NJ 07095-5042, or by email to sbutler@njta.com.
