Two ramps to the eastbound Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension will be affected by weekend bridge repairs

Oct 21 2022

Lanes will be closed this weekend on two ramps to the eastbound Newark Bay-Hudson County of the New Jersey Turnpike near Interchange 14 as a contractor makes repairs to bridge decks.

  • The ramp from the southbound mainline of the Turnpike to the eastbound Extension will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21st, to 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 23rd. Traffic accessing the Extension from that direction will be detoured.
  • The right lane of the two-lane ramp from the northbound mainline to the eastbound Extension will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21st, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24th. The left lane will remain open.

The work to be done includes resurfacing and miscellaneous repairs.

The Turnpike Authority awarded a $138.8 million contract to Schiavone Construction Co. in 2019 for structural repairs on the Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension. This work is being done under that contract. Construction started in 2019 and is scheduled to be completed next year.

Drivers who are planning to travel on the Extension this weekend are encouraged to check traffic conditions first by calling 511 from a hands-free device or downloading the SafeTripNJ app. Live traffic camera views are available under the Travel Tools tab on this website.
