Joyce Kilmer Service Area on Turnpike Closed Temporarily After Worker Tests Positive for COVID-19

Mar 31 2020

The main building at the Joyce Kilmer Service Area on the New Jersey Turnpike has been closed after a worker tested positive for COVID-19.

Restrooms and food service will not be available at that location until further notice.  Fuel sales will continue.

The worker, an employee of service area contractor HMS Host, has not been at work since March 23rd. HMS Host officials notified the Turnpike Authority of the test results Monday night. The facility was immediately closed to the public, and a licensed cleaning contractor was brought in to sanitize the building overnight.

Employees in the main building at Joyce Kilmer have been advised to self-quarantine for the next 14 days.

In order to accommodate truckers and other motorists who must travel during the state of emergency,  17 NJTA service areas on the Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway remain open for fuel,  restrooms, and grab-and-go food. Two privately owned service areas on the Parkway also remain open.

The Joyce Kilmer Service Area is located on the northbound Turnpike between interchanges 8A and 9.   The closest northbound service areas are Woodrow Wilson between interchanges 7 and 7A and Grover Cleveland between interchanges 11 and 12.

UPDATE, April 14, 2020: The Joyce Kilmer Service Area has reopened. Food service has resumed, and restrooms are available to the public.
