Eastbound Mill Road detour to be removed as Parkway improvements in Atlantic County advance

Sep 22 2021

Mill Road between Patcong Drive and Fire Road in Egg Harbor Township will reopen to eastbound traffic on Wednesday, Sept. 29th.

Eastbound traffic has been detoured off Mill Road for about 10 months in connection with the reconstruction and widening of the bridges that carry the Garden State Parkway over the road. Construction has reached a stage in which it is no longer necessary to limit traffic to westbound only, so the eastbound detour is being removed and the road reopened to traffic in both directions.

Periodic daily lane closings will continue after the detour has been removed. Those will be scheduled with the Egg Harbor Police Department.

As construction on the Parkway project continues, it will be necessary to put the eastbound Mill Road detour in place again. Exactly when will depend on the contractor’s schedule and the weather.

For about eight hours on Wednesday, while the eastbound detour is being removed, Mill Road will be closed in both directions and all traffic will be detoured.

The construction on the Mill Road overpasses is part of an $84 million New Jersey Turnpike Authority project to improve the Garden State Parkway between mileposts 30 and 35. The improvements include widening the shoulders, reconstructing and widening eight bridges, upgrading lighting and storm water management facilities, and lengthening the acceleration and deceleration lanes at Interchange 30. Construction began in the summer of 2020 and is scheduled to continue until the fall of 2023.
