ADVISORY: Alexander Hamilton Service Area on the Eastern Spur of the Turnpike to close for construction, new facility due to open by summer

Jan 02 2019

The Alexander Hamilton Service Area on the southbound Eastern Spur of the New Jersey Turnpike will be demolished and replaced with a new facility.  It is scheduled to close for construction on Jan. 5th, 2019. There will be no food, fuel, parking, or restroom facilities available during construction.

The new service area with upgraded fuel facilities, restrooms, a Sunoco convenience store, and a Starbucks is scheduled to open in the summer of 2019.

More than $250 million dollars is being spent to upgrade service area facilities on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway under agreements with service area operators Sunoco and HMSHost.  The companies agreed to pay to replace or remodel facilities at 11 Turnpike and five Parkway service areas in exchange for new contracts to operate the food and fuel concessions for the next 25 years. The agreement was announced in 2017.

Construction is already underway at two other facilities, the Monmouth Service Area on the Parkway and the Thomas Edison Service Area on the Turnpike. Those are scheduled to be completed and reopened by Memorial Day.
