ADVISORY: Monmouth Service Area on the Garden State Parkway to close for construction

Sep 03 2018

The Monmouth Service Area at milepost 100 on the Garden State Parkway will be closed for construction from Saturday, Sept. 8, 2018, through late May 2019.

The existing structure will be demolished and a new one built in its place under agreements announced last year with service area contractors HMS Host and Sunoco. The work is being done at no cost to taxpayers or toll payers.

During construction, there will be no food or fuel services and no restroom facilities available at Monmouth. Commuters will have access to parking lots, and Academy Bus will continue to provide service from the location.

During the closure, Parkway drivers in search of food, fuel, or bathroom facilities are encouraged to use the Forked River Service Area 24 miles south of Monmouth or the Cheesequake Service Area 24 miles north.

HMS Host will replace eight service areas on the Turnpike and Garden State Parkway and remodel six others under the agreement announced last year; Sunoco will make investments in fuel facilities and convenience stores at 21 Turnpike and Parkway service areas.

Plans call for the new Monmouth facility to include Shake Shack, Auntie Anne's, Starbucks, and Z Market.*

The new facility is expected to be open to the public again shortly before next Memorial Day Weekend.
