IT Radio Engineer
New Jersey Turnpike Authority


Works under the general direction of the Manager, Collaboration Services, or designee, to ensure functionality, stability, security, expandability, and reliable design of the Authority’s Motorola 800MHz radio system which commensurate with the Authority’s goals and requirements.


  1. Monitor and manage all aspects of the radio platform including, but not limited to GPS, Smartphone, and recording applications.
  2. Perform software and hardware upgrades and installations on all aspects of the radio platform including, but not limited to consoles, consolettes, and servers.
  3. Create and maintain accurate documentation which includes, but not limited to inventory levels, how to instructions, and FAQs.
  4. Review, comment, and create schematic diagrams, plans, specifications, and agreements.
  5. Ensure compliance with Authority standard procedures and FCC rules.
  6. Use electronic testing equipment and hand tools to inspect and troubleshoot radio systems and nearby radio frequencies.
  7. Interface with other departments throughout the Authority to ensure proper operations of entire communication’s infrastructure.
  8. Independently solve problems and accomplish project goal with little guidance.
  9. Oversee the installation, inspection, and maintenance of two-way radios, and other electronic communication, monitoring, and accessory equipment.
  10. Enforce Motorola R56 standards for equipment installation.

Establishes and maintains harmonious relationships while providing assistance to other departments, outside organizations, agencies and consultants to further the objectives of the position and the Authority. Represents the Authority in a professional, confidential and courteous manner.


  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or 7 years of related field work.
  2. Working knowledge of the principles of electrical, electronic, two-way radio equipment, components and systems.
  3. Working knowledge of Federal Communication Commission rules and regulations.
  4. Working knowledge of LANs, WANs, networking principles and protocols.
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Server and Workstation Operating Systems.
  6. Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
  7. Possess a valid New Jersey driver's license.
